2012 Youth Appreciation Day

Youth Appreciation Day 2012 was an overwhelming success again! Ten area schools participated by nominating a student to receive the annual award.  In addition to a certificate, each student received a $200 US savings bond or equivalent.

This year's Golden Grand Fundraiser Event took place at the Southwestern Yacht Club on May 4, 2012.

2011 Youth Appreciation Day

This year's Youth Appreciation Day was a great success!  Thank you to Christian Nazarian for organizing the event.  Every year Christian Nazarian visits the 12 elementary schools in Point Loma.  Each Principal selects one outstanding student in the school and that student along with the principal, teacher and parents attends our Optimist Meeting Breakfast.  They are recognized, receive a framed certificate from the Club along with a $200 bond to each student.  This year there were 7 girls and 3 boys honored. 

2011 Golden Grand Event

This year the Golden Grand Fundraiser Event took place at the San Diego Yacht Club on May 6th, 2011.  Over 190 guest attended the event this year and it was great success!

2010 Youth Appreciation Day

The Point Loma Optimist Club recognized local youth for their efforts in the arts, athletics, academics and community service work.

Youth Appreciation projects are intended to make children feel important and highlight their positive contributions to society. Since 1956, this program has given the Optimist Club the opportunity to work with youth toward the common goals of education, career development, physical well-being and community service.

2010 Portuguese Festa

In San Diego, the Festa is the oldest ethnic religious celebration, dating back to the time when the first families settled here in 1884 and was formally organized in 1910.  The Club participated in this Point Loma community event, with help from the local Boy Scouts, by driving the Optimist Club truck and handing out American flags in the parade.  More information about the Festa Parade can be found at http://www.upses.com/festa.html

2010 Golden Grand Event

The annual Golden Grand Gala was held at the Courtyard Marriott at Liberty Station on May 7, 2010.  Approximately 180 members and their guests attended the event.  Chairing the event was Rob Sauvajot with Don Gruhl as the Silent Auction chair.  Preliminary financial numbers indicate that the event will net the Club about $27,000 to support the youth in the Point Loma area.
